House Design   - Level 02

The design was planned for a family with 5 family members where husband is an Architect and the wife is a lecturer. One child is differently abled. Since the site is a sloping site and having two access paths the design has taken the advantage of it  for very optimum planning. Privacy levels of the house is increasing vertically and Architect's office is situated with the same level of lower level road. First floor is aligned with the upper level road and it is the user's own house level. Placing of spaces has been done strategically with the slope and access roads, while catching the optimum view to the house.

Customize GI Garden

Building Extension was designed to a roof terrace of the exiting university building. The design idea is an expandable modular system which starts from the lower floors and grows up to roof terrace. main building unit is GI pipes, which can attach and detach as per the requirement. there is a fixed main structure which cannot be changed and it covers stability and safety. other modules can be fixed to it and create seating, tables or adjust according to the requirement. The roof top will be an exhibition space, party and entertainments space, meeting space, studying space, relaxing space and etc. This space is adjustable and multi purpose.

The Mask Factory for Ambalangoda

Ambalangoda, Sri Lanka is famous for traditional masks and "Laskha"  industry which is coming with a great culture attached with stories, healings, dancing, prayers and history. But with the rapid urbanization and demand for the other jobs, most of the traditional craftsman are deviating from the industry. Gradual decline of the traditional mask related traditions can be mention as one of the key reason for this. Due to this reason all these skills and craftsmanship is going to to be erased in recent future.


The attempt of this Crafts factory is to uplift the living conditions of this people. Localists of the area can work here while visitors have the ability of visiting the place. The factory it self act as a live museum which demonstrate the chain of crafting. The visitors have a separate journey to experience it. the spaces also have created to give out the vibe of the masks, crafting in each area. The facility has snack bar and crafts shop to create revenue for the maintenance of the factory. Also there is a program of  transferring the knowledge to the younger generation. The factory involve in research purposes and knowledge sharing with other countries. Also the performing area which is open to river side accommodates seasonal festivals and special events to keep the mental well-being of the worker. As well as this performing area strongly helps to regenerate this culture once again by holding public shows.

The factory space is very free and with open plans and exposed to the outside as much as possible because the old craftsmen who are invited to work here and the generation around this factory is very simple villagers who are used to peaceful life. The design should reflect a peaceful space and should help craftsmen to focus the mind on the craft.  The special shape has introduced by inspiring from villagers temporary hut houses and modified to attract more tourists as well as attract young craftsmen to carry the knowledge to the future. Having a iconic factory like this attracts more tourists, visitors and create more revenue and form the professional dignity of the craftsman.

Having features for easy transport and storage for furniture is important as same as having a aesthetically pleasing design
