"Kamatha" The Performing Art Centre - Level 03 MDP Project
Most people in Sri Lanka belongs to the rural context, who cannot be stacked into an enclosed space directly to show performances or for tutoring. The intellect needs to be gradually improved. From the past people used to see and practise performances in more spacious and open spaces.
When researching about the Sri Lankan context “Kamatha” is specific place which existed for years and which can consider as the best performing space which suits to our context. Kamatha is a multi-purpose space as well as it has most of the acoustic and visual qualities which we expect from a performing theatre.
People in Kalutara as well as in Sri Lanka are gradually transforming to modern trends. So, the design would be a something in between modern and old with Characters of Kamatha.
